Chief John J. Bryfonski wishes to update the public about its investigation into a suspicious bag left inside a gas station convenience store last week.
Bedford Police responded to the Circle K gas station at 4 Technology Drive about 8 p.m. Friday, after a clerk reported that a suspicious adult male had left a suitcase inside the store, then left quickly.
Police responding to the call looked inside the bag and found what they determined to be suspicious materials, including wiring. The store was immediately evacuated and the State Police Bomb Squad was called in to respond. The Bomb Squad moved the bag out of the store and conducted a controlled detonation out of an abundance of caution. It was determined there was no explosive device inside.
Through its investigation Bedford Police have determined that a patron was cleaning out their vehicle at a service vacuum at the stations, and neglected to put their work bag and work boots back into the vehicle. A Good Samaritan found the items, brought them into the station, and left them on the counter when the clerk was not there.
There is no threat to the community, and there will be no criminal charges pursued.
