BEDFORD — With the holiday season underway, Chief John J. Bryfonski and the Bedford Police Department are reminding residents to secure their vehicles and belongings as part of the Department’s “Lock it or Lose it” campaign.
The vast majority of thefts from motor vehicles occur when the vehicle is unlocked.
In order to prevent motor vehicle break-ins, Bedford Police are strongly urging residents to always lock their vehicles, whether they are parked in a driveway at home or elsewhere in town. Never leave belongings, especially those of value, in the car or in plain view.
“The only way to prevent someone from breaking into your car and stealing your belongings is to keep anything that may be of value out of sight and safely secured,” Chief Bryfonski said. “Please, bring valuables inside, or lock them in your trunk to prevent becoming a victim of crime.”
Bedford Police will have an increased presence throughout the community this holiday season, but advise community members to be proactive in protecting their belongings.
If the public sees anything out of the ordinary or finds their vehicle was entered, even if nothing was taken, they are encouraged to call the Bedford Police Department at 603-472-5113.
