Bedford Police Arrest Man for DWI
BEDFORD — Chief John J. Bryfonski reports that the Bedford Police Department arrested a man for alleged drunken driving after he caused a single-car crash over the weekend.
ANDREW EVANS, AGE 41, OF MILFORD, is charged with:
- Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated
- Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon
- Disobeying an Officer
- Property Damage
On Saturday, Sept. 23, at approximately 1:37 a.m., a Bedford Police officer on a detail assignment at the Gold Club, 390 South River Road, requested assistance for an alleged intoxicated operator, later identified as EVANS. The detail officer reported that EVANS was driving a black 2014 Mustang GT and struck another car in the parking lot before exiting onto Autumn Lane.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the parking lot, which continued onto Harvey Road toward South River Road at a high rate of speed. The officer who attempted to stop EVANS in the Gold Club parking lot was forced to jump away from EVANS’ vehicle to avoid being struck.
Officers in the area intercepted EVANS on South River Road but discontinued the pursuit in the interest of public safety, as EVANS was allegedly travelling at approximately 90 mph in a posted 35 mph zone and refused to stop for the officer’s signals. EVANS continued to travel northbound on South River Road and eventually crashed.
An initial investigation by Bedford Police found that EVANS had struck a guardrail and a median before ultimately coming to a stop after hitting a second guardrail on the northbound side of South River Road just before the Everette Turnpike overpass. EVANS was transported to an area hospital with injuries that are considered to be serious but non-life-threatening.
EVANS was released on $10,000 personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear at Hillsborough Superior Court on Oct. 10. This case remains under active investigation by the Bedford Police Department.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
