Two Bedford Police Officers Promoted to Sergeants
BEDFORD, N.H. — Chief John Bryfonski is pleased to announce that two officers from the Bedford Police Department were promoted to the rank of sergeant this month.
Sgt. Kevin Bowen began his new role on Dec. 4 and and Sgt. Corey Egan stepped into his new position on Dec. 10.
“Both Sgt. Bowen and Sgt. Egan demonstrated clear leadership and commitment to the Bedford Police Department over the years,” Chief Bryfonski said. “I know they will excel in their new roles while continuing to serve and protect our residents.”
Sgt. Bowen began at the Bedford Police Department on March 29, 2011, with approximately 14 years of law enforcement experience. He previously worked at the Candia Police Department for 11 years, the Hampton Police Department for two years and the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections for a year.
He is a certified firearms instructor, tactical instructor, field training officer, rifle instructor and baton instructor.
Sgt. Bowen is also the recipient of several awards and commendations, including an award from the Department of Justice for his work on “Operation Crystal Baker” and a commendation from the then New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte for his participation in the Peer Precision Task Force. Sgt. Bowen is also the recipient of the Chief’s Letter of Recognition for his work in furthering the Department’s training programs.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Southern New Hampshire University and is a graduate of the 123rd session of the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy.
Sgt. Egan joined the Bedford Police Department on March 12, 2007, after earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Saint Anselm College.
He is certified as a Field Training Officer and is a member of the department’s recruitment team, where he works to identify the best candidates to become future Bedford police officers. Sgt. Egan is also a graduate of the 143rd Session of the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy.
Due to his dedication and service to the community, Sgt. Egan is the recipient of several letters from civilians who praised his work in town. He has also received the Bedford Police Department Award for Meritorious Service in 2014 for his proactive patrol investigations.
He earned the Chief’s Letter of Commendation for his participation in the Department’s Community Policing Program, where he served as a positive role model for Bedford youth by interacting with students during their after school athletics. Sgt. Egan also received official department letters of commendation for his actions when responding to a distraught person in 2011, along with an incident involving the seizure of a significant quantity of cocaine in 2010.
